🕳️ Mind the Gap: Spot your missing demographic data

We're excited to introduce a new feature that visually represents data 'completeness'. It highlights both the information you have - whether shown in a table, bar chart or pie chart, and provides valuable insights about what's missing at a glance.

Good decisions rely on good data - but even the best data systems are only as strong as what gets entered.

That’s why we’ve made it easier to see what’s missing.

In your demographic reports on Makerble - whether you're looking at ethnicity, gender, age or any other field - you’ll now see a clear segment or line for “Unknown”. This shows you exactly how many contacts you don’t yet have information for. And even better - you can click it to immediately view those contacts.

It’s a small addition with big benefits for data quality and equity tracking.

đź‘€ Why It Matters

When reporting on demographics, it’s easy to focus on what you can see—percentages, counts, breakdowns. But without visibility of who’s not represented in the data, you’re at risk of making assumptions based on incomplete information.

Now, with “Unknown” clearly shown in every chart or table, you can:

  • âś… Quickly spot where data is missing
  • 🔎 Identify exactly who needs following up
  • 📊 Report with more confidence and transparency
  • 🎯 Improve the completeness of your data over time

🧭 What It Looks Like

In every demographic breakdown:

  • Charts will now include a wedge or slice labelled Unknown
  • Tables will include a row showing the number of contacts with missing data
  • Clicking on that wedge or row takes you straight to the list of contacts missing that piece of information

From there, it’s easy to follow up, prompt updates, or log the data when it becomes available.

‍

🧠 Why This Helps Your Work

Whether you’re reporting to funders, evaluating programme reach, or ensuring fair representation, data quality isn’t just a technical issue—it’s a trust issue.

By making it easier to stay on top of missing data, you’re more equipped to:

  • Make decisions based on accurate, complete insight
  • Spot whether certain groups are being under-recorded
  • Improve how you collect and manage sensitive data over time
  • Strengthen the credibility of your reporting and evaluation

This feature is now live in your Demographics reports in the Contacts app.
