ABOUT
TREAD (Trails & Recreation Eastern Division) is a small but impactful non-profit in North Central Washington that brings together land managers, businesses, volunteers, and communities to manage outdoor recreation sustainably. From trail-building to volunteer coordination, their grassroots initiatives foster economic growth, protect natural resources, and strengthen communal bonds.
THE CHALLENGE
As TREAD’s scope expanded - from trail enhancements to volunteer-led programmes - they found themselves tied to a mix of spreadsheets, sign-up forms, and manual tracking methods. This made it hard to:
- Understand who they’d supported and how
- Provide timely follow-up and stewardship for volunteering and donations
- Quantify impact - such ashow many volunteers participated, hours contributed or resources distributed
- Maintain a single source of truth for people, activities, and impact stories
With scattered data and duplicated effort, efficiency and insight suffered.
THE SOLUTION
TREAD adopted Makerble Workflow - a unified CRM + impact system - to replace fragmented tools with one central, secure, branded platform:
- Integrated People Database: Volunteers, partners, and community members are now tracked from first contact through multiple initiatives
- Project-Specific Workflows: Whether it's trail-building, event planning, or training, each project has its own workflow - complete with custom forms, participant statuses, alerts and events
- Impact Tracking in Action: From logging volunteer hours to recording infrastructure that's been put in place, TREAD tracks both qualitative stories and quantitative metrics
- Automations & Communication: Targeted emails and SMS messages help follow-up with volunteers, share impact updates and coordinate upcoming projects
THE IMPACT
TREAD reclaimed clarity and control:
- Efficiency Boost: Staff automatically capture volunteer engagement - no more manual spreadsheets
- Deeper Insight: Real-time dashboards track volunteer hours, participation rates, project outputs, and community reach
- Stronger Reporting: TREAD can now easily demonstrate value to partners, donors, and land management bodies - with accurate data and participant stories
- Sustainability in Action: The platform supports ongoing stewardship - meaning TREAD can better maintain volunteer relationships and project impact over time
