Impact Workshop: How to create a practical Theory of Change in 7 steps

This hands-on session will take the mystery out of "theory of change" and enable you to unlock your own expertise around the difference your programmes make. By the end of the session you will have a set of outcomes and indicators you can use to measure the impact of one of your programmes. You will have the tools to repeat the exercise for the rest of your work.

How many times have you put off the thought of: "How do I measure our impact?"! It often feels tricky, seems very mathematical and comes across as far removed from the day-to-day work you're doing to make a difference. But it doesn't have to be that way. Our facilitator, Matt Kepple, has delivered workshops to hundreds of charities and social enterprises, across the UK and overseas. Our workshop, How to create a practical Theory of Change in 7 steps is designed to meet you where you're at and ensure that by the end of it:

  • You know exactly how you'll measure and report the impact of one (or more) of your projects
  • You know what your outcomes are (and how they differ from outputs and indicators)
  • You feel able to repeat the process for your other projects

Here's what previous participants have said about our impact workshops:

We deliver our Impact Workshops in several formats:

Open workshops are designed for participants from several organisations - usually one person per organisation. Team workshops are designed for several representatives from a single organisation - the exercises are designed to surface different perspectives, ensure everyone has a voice and draw different ideas together into a common thread.

  • 1 hour open workshop - you'll go through all 7 steps in pairs or small groups.
  • 2 hour open workshop - you'll go through the 7 steps in detail for one of your programmes
  • Half-day team workshop - this session is designed for a team within a single organisation, partnership or consortium: you'll go through the 7 steps in detail for one of your programmes or your organisation as a whole
  • Full day team workshop - this session is designed for a team within a single organisation, partnership or consortium: you'll go through the 7 steps in detail for one of your programmes and for your organisation as a whole. Then we'll join it together.
